How Can You Help A Victim Of A Dating Scam

Even the most secure and well known top dating sites and dating apps like the match dating site, the OkCupid dating sites, and the hily dating app can be breeding grounds for vicious, heartless dating scammers who want to squeeze the bank accounts of anyone who falls victim to them, and no regrets. It's sad when this happens to innocent people who think they've met really good people, but it's more common than you might think.

Millions of people go through a process of recovery every day, to restore their money and their faith in humanity, so just promise your loved one, not everyone is evil. There's someone out there for them. It's perfectly understandable if they want to take a break from dating sites, but they shouldn't give up entirely. Just help them understand that there are ways to prevent this from happening in the future and, most importantly, to be around them! If your friends or family are victims of dating scams, read this article to help them.

Help them change their password.

Whether it's a counselor, a financial expert, or a family member familiar with financial security, these are the places your loved ones can turn for help to feel good about their situation. You can contact their financial institution for them, or have them do so in order to take action to protect their identity and finances from any further fraud. Have them log on to every social media platform they use and change their passwords. Facebook, Instagram, email, dating sites, just about everything. You never know what a fraudster is capable of, and if they give their bank information to the fraudster in order to fund them, you may also want to ask them to suspend any bank account.

Show your love and support.

Something like this can do a lot of emotional damage to a person. Whether they've been stolen by hundreds or thousands, or small amounts, it's traumatic for them to think that someone really cares about you and then find out that they're using you, to feel like you're not good enough, the inability to get love leads them to stop looking for the right person. As a close friend or family member, you must offer to be their shoulder to cry on, or just let them rant at you because they are likely to be frustrated, both with the scammer, and frustrated that I've been duped. You have to assure them that it's not their fault, that they're one of the thousands of victims who have fallen victim to sugar-coated love frauds. They shouldn't feel embarrassed or sad that they have to go through this; it can happen to anyone, and no one is immune to online dating scams.

Get professional help.

Not everyone is entirely comfortable with seeing a therapist, so if your loved ones don't feel comfortable with it, you might suggest they see at least one financial adviser, so they can get some professional help to deal with any losses they may face in all of this. Seeing a counselor will help them in more ways; they can find help in recovery after the whole ordeal, and perhaps learn other ways to protect their identity.

Your loved ones may be a little embarrassed by the whole situation, or just a little reluctant to contact the authorities because of fear or because they still have real feelings for the fraudster. In either case, it is always good to have someone with them to go through all the detours. Of course, you'll want to try to help a friend or family member who's been duped in the name of dating, and there are many resources available to make sure they get through it in the best way possible.

Dating scams aren't just about men sitting in front of foreign computers, speaking broken English, and professing their love after the first week; many times, these dating scammers masquerade as plain-looking men and girls, they just want to make a few bucks, and they don't have to do anything but talk. You may be used to hearing about people in their 70s being duped online by their Nigerian prince's soulmate for thousands of dollars, but many times it takes someone weeks, even months, to get a small amount of money at once, maintain dating with the victim, and bleed you dry before they know it
